When you are at the center of an international firestorm, sometimes reflecting back on your childhood can help soothe your worries. That is, of course, if you’re a regular person. Kim Jong-Un, however, is not a regular person. He is the 33-year-old dictator at the head of a hermit kingdom that has test-launched four different missiles in the last six weeks. Apparently, when he hasn’t been threatening to rain nuclear oblivion down upon his enemies, he’s been enjoying a good laugh with his generals.

In undated footage, believed to be two months old, according to South Korean officials, Kim is seen smoking and watching an ‘aerial demonstration’ of North Korea’s air force. In a country hit hard by international sanctions, you’ll have to excuse the military for getting creative in how it displayed its abilities. Pairs of air force pilots are seen walking around on a map of the Earth painted onto the concrete floor. One pilot holds a toy airplane, made out of paper, while the second pilot holds a cardboard cutout of the interior of a fighter jet up to his face. The two proceed to walk around the map, while other members of the ‘squadron’ can be seen doing the same thing over different parts of the map. There’s no one designated as the poop balloon bombardier, though.

As Kim Jong-Un and his generals laugh at the display, other nations around the world don’t find the apparent display of military strategy, even with paper airplanes, a subject of levity. An individual close to the dictator, Kenji Fujimoto, who is the former sushi chef to Kim Jong Il, stated recently that Jong-Un has no desire to start a nuclear war. Rather, he is simply a petulant child who launches missiles when he’s angry. While such reassurances would be more comforting if the leader of North Korea was less erratic, all eyes are now turning toward the upcoming Workers’ Party Congress. In the first meeting of the group in 36 years, foreign experts believe that the congress will formally adopt the nuclear weapons policies pushed for by Kim Jong-Un.
