Japan’s Suntory Beverage & Food Ltd. recently launched a soft drink combining the bitter, full-bodied flavor of espresso with the bubbly excitement of carbonation.

Plastic bottles of “Espressoda” began gracing the shelves of supermarkets and convenience stores across Japan from July 31.

Suntory aims to further tap into Japan’s carbonated drink market, which has grown by more than 20% over the past five years.

A marketing survey conducted by the company also showed that more carbonated drinks are being consumed at the work place.

So promising a “twist of bold coffee and refreshing soda,” “Espressoda” was launched for hard-working adults.

It is too early to tell if bubbly coffee will become a hit as some consumers are not sure if the drink should be sipped or chugged.

“Espressoda” might also be the world’s first coffee that comes with a warning not to shake before drinking.
