The Japanese have a wonderful knack for putting a wonderful, wacky, or just plain cool twist on even the most mundane of items, and snack foods are no exception. Whether it’s yuzu-flavored Kit Kats or pizza in an ice cream cone, the Japanese are always innovating and experimenting to create new products.

Read on to learn more about some of the coolest types of gum available in Japan.

1. Lotte Black Black

This gum is super-caffienated, giving it a very strong minty/herbal flavor that will snap you out of your sleepy haze. In addition to tea-derived caffeine, the gum also contains Vitamin B and ginseng. This style of packing also comes with a “gum paper” dispenser, which provides you with a convenient way to throw away your gum.

2. Lotte No Time

This gum is perfect for when you are on the go, but really need to brush your teeth. Each piece of gum contains tiny granules that act like mini scrubbers, polishing food particles and plaque from your enamel.

3. Meiji Wata Gum (Cola flavor)

It’s a gum! It’s cotton candy! Its…both? Wata looks like cotton candy, but once you pop it in your mouth, it turns into gum. This flavor is also carbonated, so the gum also fizzes when you chew it.

4. Meiji Wata Pachi (Grape flavor)

This is basically the same as the gum listed above, except this variety doesn’t just fizz…it pops! The gum contains like Pop Rock-like bits that crackle and explode in your mouth.

5. Glico Uranaikko Gum

This gum is inspired by a traditional Japanese item called “omikuji”, which are wooden sticks inscribed with fortunes. Each stick of this gum is also inscribed with a fortune, with some being good and others being bad. All the sticks taste like cola, and the “bad fortune” sticks stain your tongue red.

6. Glico Pos-Cam Gum

Pos-Cam is short for Phosphoryl-Oligosaccharide Calcium, which is the active ingredient in this gum. Pos-Cam has been specifically formulated to help strengthen your teeth by actually infusing your enamel and dentin with minerals.

7. R2D2 Gum Pack

This R2D2 comes pre-loaded with gum, but can be refilled with any of your favorite flavors.

8. UHA Happiness Puccho

This yogurt-based treat comes in a variety of flavors: Chocolate & Strawberry, White Soda, White Peach, Caramel, and “Miracle”. Each has tiny candy or chocolate bits speckled throughout.

9. Lotte Doraemon Kawarinbo

This candy starts off as a lollipop, and when you finish the sucker, you can chew the stick, which is made of gum. Also features the cute characters from the anime Doraemon.

10. “Man Smell” Gum

This gum is meant to help men smell attractive to women. After you chew a stick of this gum, you will find that your skin is releasing a pleasant aroma. That is because this gum is infused with rose oil and menthol.

11. Bust Up Gum

This gum claims to be able to increase the size of your breasts, thanks to a special plant extract. According to the company, the gum contains “extracts from the Pueraria mirifica (Kwao Krua) plant, makes a woman’s breasts grow as well as improving their shape and tone.”

12. “Viagara” Gum

Suplitol Tongkat Ali Gum for Men has a long name, but has a simple promise. Allegedly, if you chew this gum, you will experience a rush of blood. I think you know where.

13. Pepperfruits

Tropical fruit flavored gum shot through with black peppercorns.

See something here you just HAVE to try? Most of the gums listed here can be order via JBox, and many of them cost under $2.
