Japan is well known for its wide variety of shrines. And each shrine serves its own purpose.

There are some at which people go to pray for good health. There are also shrines at which people go for prosperity.

This shrine in Tochigi Prefecture also caters to devotees praying for a hemorrhoid cure.

Kunigami Shrine is frequented by people who want to be cured of existing and developing hemorrhoids. They squat around the “butt-washing stone,” with their butts facing the stone, while reciting a chant.

It has not been proven if the stone indeed cures hemorrhoids. But, after all, it is up to the people to believe.
