Chinese photographer Rongguo Gao made a collection of photos with identical twins as his subjects to show how life experiences made them look different from one another.

The twins are all aged over 50, and as he captured them side by side, similarities and differences were seen. Biologically speaking, the twins should look alike, but their different lifestyles and environments, no matter how big or small they may be, over time made them look different.

“He/she used to have the same face, lived in the same family, but their lives changed due to various reasons after growing up,” Gao said. “I take these identical twins in their fifties face-to-face. This is a way similar to the way one would look into the mirror.”
