Eating bananas on a daily basis is good for one’s health. But eight dozen in a single day is a totally different story.

In India, a gold chain thief was forced to eat 96 bananas to help flush out the swallowed item from his body.

Damu Gupta, 28, was arrested after fellow train passengers pointed him as the one who stole the jewelry from one Dr. Sheetal Kamble. Gupta initially denied the act, but then a passenger saw him swallowing the item.

“We initially conducted a regular X-ray, but it didn’t detect anything. So we conducted an ultrasound, which revealed the chain in Gupta’s abdomen,” Sampat Nirmal, a senior inspector with the Government Railway Police in Kalyan, said.

Authorities then fed him almost a hundred bananas, and the next day, the item was recovered from his body.

Authorities have not said what happened to Gupta afterwards, but hopefully he didn’t die from eating so many bananas.
