Added to the List of Counterfeit Items from China: Condoms
Posted on March 8, 2014
Adding to the list of counterfeit goods from China are the famous Durex-brand condoms. Two million condoms that were labeled as Durex, Contex, and Jissbon were confiscated from a raid early last year.
Reports state that a factory in China has been producing fake condoms since December of 2012. After buying condoms from a factory in Heibei province, the counterfeiters’ factory workers then repacks about 20,000 condoms per day.
However, the police did not say anything about the products being faulty.
In April last year, Ghana imported substandard condoms from China. “When we tested these condoms, we found that they were poor quality, can burst in the course of sexual activity, and have holes that expose the users to unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease,” an official from Ghana’s Food and Drug Administration said.
If people were to use these faulty condoms, pregnancy and STIs will more likely come as a result.
