Viral Video Superstar, the ‘Masturbating’ Cat, May Really Be in Pain: Netizens

Posted on January 24, 2013

Recently on Weibo, China’s biggest microblogging website, a video gone showing a cat seemingly “pleasuring itself” went viral.

You can see the video for yourself here.

As seen in the video, the cat repeatedly uses its paws to rub its “down there” region. A lot of Chinese netizens have claimed that the cat is indeed masturbating. Some people, however, think otherwise, positing that the cat is cold and therefore rubbing itself to warm up.

Some Japanese netizens expressed a different angle, that the cat is behaving as such because it needs to pee.

In the West, many people have found this clip not to be cute, but instead anger-provoking, expressing wonder as to why someone chose to take pictures and be entertained instead of helping the “obviously sick” cat.

What do you think? Is it sick or just pleasuring itself?

That is not where a cats genitals are. It's paws are rubbing the stomach area, which likely indicates there is something irritating or hurting her in that area.

This is a Calico cat. Calico's are nearly always female. Therefore, this cat is not likely masturbating, unless its vagina is in the middle of its stomach. It's more likely that its injured in some way.

That's a sign of an infection. You know when a dog has worms and he rubs his butt all over your carpet? Yeah. Except cats are more like humans and they rub and scratch it with their paws. Poor kitty.

If it were pleasuring itself it would be licking not rubbing with front feet- it is a cat.
