Sock Theft: Japan’s Newest Crime Trend

Posted on January 6, 2013

A series of crimes has been occurring in the streets of Japan lately. The victims are mostly teenage girls, but it’s not just another crime like robbery or sexual harassment.

There have been many reported cases of a thief tackling high school girls and then tearing off a single sock. It’s quite unbelievable, but yes, it’s true.

A local police officer even said that “in the third case, a man took the girl’s leggings off. In all the other cases, victims lost one of their socks.”
