Cat lovers should calm themselves before reading this.

A total of 500 stray cats were saved after being spotted by police officer Sun Hai, who coincidentally stopped a large delivery truck in Xuzhou, China’s Jiangsu Province, for a routine inspection.

At first, the driver told the police that the truck contained rabbits. But when officer Sun Hai and his colleague asked to see the animals, what he found was a truckload of live cats that were cramped up in cages. Some were poking their heads out of burlap sacks they’d been stuffed into.

It is believed that the cats would be dropped off at local restaurants to be served as dinner.
