1.8-kilo Hairball Removed from Girl’s Stomach
A 19-year-old Indian girl was unable to eat or drink for a couple of days. The family finally took her to the doctor for a checkup. She subsequently went in for an operation.
What was wrong with her?
Led by Dr. Parvinder Singh Lubana, the team of doctors found 1.8 kilograms of hair wrap around a chalk-like matter inside her stomach. The operation was successful and the “hairball” was removed safely.
Dr. Amit Agarwal, one of the surgeons, said that the girl had the habit of eating her hair and chalk at school. This led to an intestinal obstruction that made it hard for the girl to take in food, and even water.
