Beijing Shows Its Sympathetic Side with…Star-rated Toilets
Beijing has always been one of the world’s top cities visited during vacation times. However, tourists also constantly complain about the city’s restrooms. In fact, a third of all the complaints filed with the Beijing Tourism Administration were all about the facilities.
For instance, tourists don’t even need maps or signage to find the nearest restrooms. They simply follow their noses. Voila! Welcome to Beijing!
Once inside a washroom, you’d need to jump here and there to avoid “dirt” that was left by the previous occupants.
Well, there’s good news after all! You can now do your business more comfortably because Beijing has already addressed this concern through putting into place a star-rated system for restrooms and public toilets.

At present, there are already over 70 star-rated toilets in tourist spots, including the Great Wall and the Summer Palace. Over the next two years, the city plans to build 64 four-star, 197 three-star and 118 one-star toilets, situated at all of the city’s major tourist destinations.
Here are a bunch of pictures of some of the newly built star-rated commodes.
Hopefully, this new step that Beijing has made will further help in the increase of tourists in China over the next few years.
