Indian Ministers Caught Watching Porn on Mobile Phones

Posted on February 26, 2012

America has certainly had its share of statesmen embroiled in technological smut, but new lows in this department were reached this week when three Indian politicians were caught viewing porn on a mobile phone during a session of state parliament.

The three politicians were from a morally conservative party, and included a women’s affairs minister.

The three statesmen in Karnataka, a state in southern India, all resigned after they were caught, claiming they did not want to cause any embarrassment for their party, the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Initially, the three politicians attempted to filibuster their way through public “misunderstanding” of the incident and refused to step down, but public outrage won out.

In addition to the indignation generated from rights activists and right-wing Hindu groups in conservative India, the ruling Congress Party has called for the immediate dissolution of the assembly.

“We live in a country where there already is this social mindset that women are disposable commodities and are seen as transferable properties … It really is troubling that the people who are in positions of power and have the responsibility to change things actually have the same mindset and are busy watching porn,” said Renuka Chowdhary, a former federal minister for women’s development and a member of the Congress Party.

In India, patriarchy reigns supreme and women suffer greatly from threats including rape, dowry-related murder, forced marriage, domestic violence, honor killings and human trafficking.

Shame, shame, shame on those ministers, who are stupid as well as insensitive. If watching porn at home, behind closed doors, it would have been no one’s business but their own.
