Privacy Art Exhibit: Unusual Underwear Collection

For college student/artist, Yi Ci, her request for donations of old underwear in the dormitory buildings of the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts has resulted in several hundred sets donated for the sake of art.

Her graduation exhibit, known as Privacy, will soon go on display in Wuhan, central China’s Hubei Province

Currently a senior, Yi Ci wanted to do something different to show her gratitude to the school and for the fact that she would be graduating. She posted a notice asking other student to help her in gathering underwear for her project.

“Yi Ci, a student of painting, is collecting any old underwear for her graduation work exhibition. Hope you can donate your old underwear in the box in the public bathroom. Your kind actions will make a great art-work. Please join me,” reads her public notice.

Artists have always been considered “out of the box” thinkers and that is what makes them artists in the unconventional sense of the word. The Privacy exhibit is one woman’s vision of something most of us may not understand but need to respect

Underwear covers out true insides and perhaps Privacy is all about keeping things covered while simultaneously exposing them to the world? Or more poetic, the exposure of truth, veiled though it might be?

True meanings are evasive and known only to the creator, but as one blogger so aptly put it, this exhibit is a “rear collection” indeed.
