Village Elder Sentences Molester To Kitchen Duty
A guy who molested a 45-year-old widow has been sentenced to organize a lavish feast for his village.
Ram Bahadur is a resident of Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, who likes to have his way with women, whether they like him or not. In particular, the fellow cornered a widow as she was returning home from work on March 9, and then proceeded to rape her.
In response, the panchayat, or elder, of his village ordered him to piece together a lavish feast for his friends, family, and neighbors.
It’s an unprecedented sentence that goes against Indian law, and has frustrated police officers.
“The incident clearly reflects how some people just don’t care about the law and pronounce their own judgment in criminal cases,” said police inspector Nand Kishore.
Thankfully, real law trumps traditional law, so Ram has since been arrested. In addition, police may also arrest the panchayat.
It just goes to show that there’s no way to get around the law. Nice try though, Ram!
