The Necono Digital Camera: The New Cat’s Meow

Known for their love for the weird and the unusual when it comes to gadgets, the Japanese are always in search of new and different ways to amuse themselves in a high tech fashion.

The Necono is a digital camera shaped like a cat, which for the most part, is better than a cat shaped like a digital camera. Its presence falls into the category of ‘weird gadget’ no matter how you look at it or describe it.

This fully functioning camera is the brain child of a Scandinavian designer and the Japanese company, Superheadz, and it does its thing (taking video and pictures) via a hidden MicroSD card.

This feline’s belly is not filled with tuna feast or other fishy treats but rather with a USB port set up with an A/V socket. One of the cat’s eyes holds the camera lens, which is capable of taking low-resolution 3MP pictures.

As bizarre as this creation is, the Necono has one other feature that is even odder. It can function as a magnet on any metallic surface albeit a rather odd looking one.

The Necono sees all and can catch subjects off guard, leaving those who know about its voyeur-type powers wondering about one who enjoys pursuing such a strange pastime.

The Necono spy cam is being marketed with the target phrase, “No longer a camera, more like a pet.” It can be yours covertly or overtly if you can place your order in Japanese for the current asking price of 15,750 yen (US $191).

Expected to be available sometime in May, the Necono will be shipped with a small portable monitor.
