Chinese Truck Driver Really Out On a Limb

Escaping certain death, a very lucky Chinese truck driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed over the edge of a bridge more than 200 feet above the ground in China’s Qinghai province.

While on the surface this hardly describes a fortuitous situation, looking at the picture above, tells quite another story of a dramatic and incredible escape and rescue.

Due to its miraculous nature, even though this news story has been related many times before, it is one worth re-telling. Even the likes of Harry Houdini himself would no doubt have shuddered at some of the death-defying measures employed to rescue this truck driver from a fatal plunge.

The truck had clipped the concrete wall and turned over the edge. Instead of following the natural laws of gravity, the vehicle hung precariously to the side of the bridge by means of one single tire and some torn metal located next to the diesel tank.

Upside down, the truck clung to the concrete barrier and rescuers moved in, risking their own lives as they could never be sure when the metal or the tire would give way and send the truck plummeting 200 feet into the gorge below.

“If the lorry had fallen, they would have fallen too,” commented one witness.

The expression, “out on a limb” has taken on a new and unexpected perspective, and one that will not be soon forgotten for both the truck driver and his brave rescuers.
