Duo Designs Destruction Therapy Vending Machine
Do you get angry? I sure do! The problem is that there’s no simple way to deal with it. All we can do is ignore the anger, or pacify it by focusing our attention elsewhere. That’s fine and dandy, except for the fact that denial is never a good thing. Thankfully, Chinese artists Ronnie Yarisal and Katja Kublitz have designed an interactive sculpture / vending machine designed to solve this very problem.

Pictured above is a vending machine full of delicate items like plates, crystal glasses, and porcelain. It was designed by firm Yarisal and Kublitz for people who need to release some tension. If you have some anger in your heart, all you have to do is merely slip some coins into the slot, pick an item, retrieve it from the bin, and then get to breaking!
It’s an innovative albeit strange solution, but it does have its merits. There’s even an unofficial science behind it known as destruction therapy. The premise is that people can get in better touch with their feelings by smashing things to smithereens.
“When we smash something, we’re moderating our psychological state through the physical part of ourselves,” said Dr Michael Sinclair, director of City Psychology Group.
Unfortunately, destruction therapy isn’t generally recognized as a legitimate means of therapy, which means anyone trying to release some anger must break his or her own plates. With the release of Tarisal and Kublitz’s machine, however, we all now have a place to turn when the desire to “smash something” becomes too strong to ignore.
It’s not as fun and exciting as smashing a watermelon with a picture of an arch rival, but I suppose it’ll do for now.
