Egg Or A Bowling Pin?: Only The Chicken Knows For Sure

When Zhang Yunfeng, 75, from Jize in northern China’s Hebei Province, heard one of his ten chickens clucking, he rushed to the scene.

He was amazed to discover that the hen laid a bowling-pin-shaped egg. Although is far from a common sight, it is not unheard of, as experts claim there are scientific factors to explain such an occurrence.

Laying strangely-shaped eggs can come from several sources, including ovulation problems, hormonal imbalances and eating the wrong kind of food.

Despite this, it is still very odd indeed to look upon a bowling pin-shaped object and know that it is an egg.

In March of 2009, Natalie Wiltshire of Northamptonshire, England, was equally shocked when one of her hens laid a similarly shaped egg.

“I’ve done a bit of research and there’s nothing to suggest you should ever get eggs in this shape,” she told the press.

Perhaps she and Mr. Zhang should pool their unusual eggs and patiently wait for eight more to appear and then…
