Chihuahua Joins Japanese Disaster Rescue Squad
Seven-year-old Momo (or Peach) is not just any Chihuahua. She is a dog with credentials who has just been appointed by a Japanese police department as a member of its disaster rescue squad.

The dog will serve alongside retrievers and German shepherds. Momo earned her ranking after passing a canine rescue test last week and is slated to become a member of the Nara Police Department in western Japan in January.
The seven-pound dog came through in a disaster simulation with flying colors. Given the scent of a human, Momo was able to sniff out the “target survivor” within an area of 1,100 square feet.
“It’s quite rare for us to have a Chihuahua work as a police dog. We would like it to work hard by taking advantage of its small size,” said a police spokesperson.
Named after a state in Mexico, Chihuahuas are the world’s smallest breed of dog. They are loyal, highly intelligent and love doing things with their owners. Check out this video of a singing Chihuahua below.
Apparently size and a noble heart have nothing to do with one another.
Good luck, Momo.
Go get ‘em (or in this case, find ‘em)!
