Asian Balloons Invade U.S. Thanksgiving Day Parade
This year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was invaded by two Japanese balloons and artist Takashi Murakami.

Known as the king of Japanese contemporary art, Takashi Murakami was honored at the parade this year, along with three contemporary American artists. He’s a highly celebrated artist known for bridging the gap between contemporary art and otaku culture via the introduction of Poku art and the superflat postmodern art movement.

In particular, the parade featured two of his most famous creations, characters Kaikai and Kiki. His company, which ironically is named Kaikai Kiki, produces stuffed animals and puppets for children. And well, Macy felt it was time to introduce these two cuties to American children.

Also present was Takashi himself dressed in a very unusual costume.
