Thailand Temple Home to 2,000 Decaying Fetuses
For one lucky Buddhist temple in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, the path to nirvana may be hindered not by the “fires of greed, hatred, and delusion,” but by the horrendous stench of over two thousand discarded fetuses.

Earlier in the week, over 300 fetuses wrapped in white plastic bags were discovered at the Phai-nguern Chotinaram temple, with over 1,500 more being discovered a few days later. In Thailand, Buddhist temples often have morticians responsible for the preparation of the bodies for cremation. The temple’s head mortician admitted to receiving a number of fetuses from a variety of different clinics, with one woman facing upwards of ten years in prison for performing illegal abortions and taking the fetuses to the temple. One of the morticians admitted to receiving $16 for each illegally aborted fetus it received.
So if they were supposed to be cremated, what happened? According to one nearby resident, the likely cause of the excess of fetuses is the construction of new incinerators. As a result, the morticians received a “backlog,” as it were, of fetuses, causing them to pile up and ultimately begin to decompose, resulting in a horrible stench.
Why would they keep accepting the fetuses if they can’t cremate them? Maybe they really tired the room together. Either way, police stated they were on their way from the temple to the Chulongkorn Forensic Institute for investigation.
