Real-Life Nermel the Cat Shipped to Canada
Remember when mischievous Garfield would try and mail Nermal the adorable kitten to Abu Dhabi? Well, it appears that a real-life Nermal has fallen victim to the same type of wicked scheme.

Pictured above is a severely malnourished calico kitten that was discovered trapped in a shipping container that arrived in Canada from China. The little beauty managed to survive a 45-day trip during which she lost a tremendous deal of weight from dehydration and starvation—not to mention outright fear, I imagine.
Employees at the Calgary-based ICON Stone and Tile company initially discovered Mandarin (as she’s since been named) “tucked away with an order of granite slabs,” reported the Gazette.
“We had to empty the entire container before being able to reach the cat, because (she) jumped and hid in a corner that was unreachable,” said Amy Bindman, an interior designer at the company.
After the discovery, Mandarin was then transferred to the Calgary Humane Society, where Desiree Arsenault, a spokesperson for the shelter, determined that she’s only six months old. From here on, Mandarin will be in quarantine as staff members screen her for diseases and then apply the proper treatments & vaccinations required.
Two questions still remain, though.
First, how did Mandarin survive the ordeal? Arsenault speculates that there were likely mice and bugs running about, which of course still leaves us in the blank in regard to water.
But more importantly, what vicious human chose to ship her to Canada, and why? Unfortunately, we’ll likely never have an answer to that question. Hopefully, however, the belief that karma is a B really will hold true in this instance! MEOW!
