Terrifying Teacher Punishes Pupils with Strange Syringe

Even though violent crime is considered relatively rare in China, shocking events do happen within the borders of the world’s most populous country. Every few years, it seems that a violent student-teacher interaction makes headlines in China. For example, a few years ago in 2008, an angry teacher literally ripped a hole in a student’s face.

Now, another deranged Chinese teacher is making headlines for her violent actions.

Pictured above is Sun Qiqi, a kindergarten teacher who (until recently) worked at a school in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. Earlier this month, she admitted that she had punished 63 “disobedient” pupils by repeatedly pricking them with empty 5 ml hypodermic syringes.

According to reports out of China, Sun Qiqi stabbed the children in various places on their bodies, including their feet, hands, and buttocks. All of the children were between the ages of 3 and 6. Sun Qiqi’s desk at the school was also found to be covered in pockmarks caused by her habit of stabbing the needle into the hard surface of the desk to intimidate children in her class.

While she contends that she never injected her students with any chemicals or pathogens, investigators have still tested at least 24 of the students for diseases like HIV and hepatitis. To date, no students have tested positive. Still, the parents of the affected children are suing for damages totaling 1.8 million yuan ($265,000), which is reportedly more than the average teacher in China makes over the course of five decades.

Sun Qiqi was recently tried in the provincial court, but no verdict has been reported. An expert testifying at the trial said that while Sun Qiqi clearly was suffering from some sort of mental issue, she should still be held responsible for her actions. “As a medical graduate, she should have known her acts could cause the spread of infections,” said the expert in a statement.
