Where America Blushes, Asia Embraces [NSFW?]

For many Westerners, a trip to the far East is a lesson in humility. From the countless TV shows that fail to leave much of the human form to the imagination to theme parks designed to make even the most liberal of individuals blush, our Asian friends have taken the most taboo of subjects and embraced them with open arms.

As these photographs illustrate, nudity, brazen sexuality and downright weirdness appear to be incredibly commonplace.

In America, condoms are exceptionally effective birth control devices and fodder for the religious right. In Asia, they’re an excuse to dress up in giant sperm costumes. It’s ironic, as that which these hearty sperm creatures promote are the very things that inevitably result in their death.

Context is clearly necessary to comprehend what exactly this picture is promoting, but sometimes ignorance is bliss. Humorous Halloween costume? Underwear for the gender-confused? Or simply another product of the East’s predisposition for all things weird?

While the West is content with shielding their youth from all things sexual in nature, the East sometimes embraces it in the most unique of ways. Take for example this giant stone phallus, which if the accompanying sign is any indication, is representative of something… Or someone.

Given the prevalence of sexual theme parks in Asia, this really shouldn’t be THAT weird, but once again, the lack of context allows us to go wild with our imaginations.

My guess? The penis of the rock biter from The Neverending Story.

One couldn’t even hazard a guess as to what this is from, though judging from the background of the image, it was clearly a huge draw for visitors and ex-pats alike.

Around Thanksgiving, Americans are often subjected to cutesy commercials depicting salt and pepper shakers designed to look pilgrims come to life and attempt to be reunited as they’re passed around the table. On the other side of the world, Asians get a bizarre penis/vagina hybrid that can only be described as “nightmare inducing.”

Far cry from a country that flipped its lid when a washed up musician let her nipple slip during the Super Bowl.
