Pachyderms Vandalize Small Indian School
Villagers in Matkumdih, India, came across a different type of elephants on parade when they discovered that a herd of wild elephants had ransacked their public school in the early hours of morning in July last year.

According to reports, the daring pachyderms had gone through the school’s kitchen and eaten up most of the food allocated for the students’ meals.
This included four sacks of rice, a sack of pulses as well as their storage of potatoes.
It would appear that food might not have been the motive for this bizarre attack. As it is, not only did they snub one particular sack of rice but they also took time to smash up the doors and windows of a number of classrooms.
Keeping true to the vandal mentality, the elephants also shredded a few of the textbooks as well as ‘tagging’ the rooms with paint.
The villagers are convinced that this is the same herd that attacked a house in a nearby village at 10 pm the previous night.
In this case, a young elephant charged into a home and destroyed a television set.
“Earlier, we spent nervous nights fearing Naxalite strikes. Now, we live in fear of tusker attacks. After nightfall, residents of over 40 villages in Basarda, Bansa and Matkumdih panchayat areas remain alert,” said Basudev Prasad, a resident of the village.
