Coke Releases Green Tea Flavored Cola

Coca-Cola has been through many different iterations, including Classic, Diet New, Vanilla, Cherry, etc. But now in Japan, you can find a more natural flavor from a  different drink – Green Tea.

The tea will hit stores on June 8. Its healthy antioxidants, called catechins, and slight green tea aftertaste are targeted at health-conscious young women in their twenties and thirties.

“We wanted to cater to people who are looking for something that tastes good but is also good for health and beauty,” said Coca Cola (Japan) Co. spokesman Katsuya Sato on Thursday.

While Coca-Cola is the leader in the Japanese cola market, it faces stiff competition from international rival Pepsi, who will release basil-flavored “Pepsi Shiso” later in June. They also face challenges in the domestic market, as manufacturers of non-carbonated bottled drinks like tea, coffee and fruit juice cut into Coke’s market share.

Some years ago, here in Argentina they launched a Mate-flavoured Coke. It lasted about two months. LOL. So this won't surprise me a bit.

But, Coca-Cola sells bottled Water in the U.S. and Canada under the label "Dasani" (i'm pretty sure in lots of other countries too). Actually, that company sells many beverages that have nothing to do with the company' original concept of its popular cola (under various other subsidiaries). They're really creative in what they choose as their "next" product but most of these do fail.
This article isn't that weird to me though 'cause
A soda company in Canada, best known for it's ginger ale, named Canada Dry has released a Green Tea flavoured ginger ale soda (although i'm pretty sure the drink in asia would be more "authentic" in it's "green tea-ness")
This concept of Green Tea flavoured cola probably would taste good and isn't so bizzare.

Pepsi shiso is not basil flavour it is shiso flavour which is completely different. Shiso is shaped like a nettle and has a strong flavour often with served with sashimi, harumaki etc.

Green tea is the wonder drink of the millennium; it not only has a wonderful flavor but the health benefits of the drink are so extensive that every day they are finding new reasons to drink green tea instead of coffee. Fresh green tea is the best to use because it has the greatest health benefits. Green tea has been used by steeping the leaves in boiling water as far back as 5,000,000 years ago, in India and China.
