China Troublemakers on Lockdown for Olympics
If you are a troublemaker in Shanghai, then the China government has issued you a notice.
“In order to strengthen public order during the Olympics and ensure the Games go smoothly, these are the rules important controlled people in our area must follow from April 1 to October 31.”
“Do not pick quarrels in public places”, “Do not express any political opinion to foreign reporters” and “Do not distort the truth, intentionally spread rumours or use other methods to whip up and disturb social order”.

In addition to the above rules, the Hong Kong-based Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy issue a statement to the so called “troublemakers“, petitioners, or anyone on the “controlled” list, ordering them not to leave the city of Shanghai during the coming Olympics.
They have also been instructed not to talk about their political opinions to foreigners, leave the country (which is odd since they can’t leave Shanghai to begin with), or store weapons and explosives at their homes.
Anyone caught breaking the rules from April 1 to October 31, will be detained or prosecuted, depending on the rule broken.
The 2008 Olympic games will open on August 8th in Beijing, China.

em…… what is the contexts of both pictures used in this article? very interesting.
I don’t know about the first one, but the second one is staged. That’s right, staged by anti-china propagandists. It’s really hard to believe, but it’s true.
What you didn’t see in the subsequent pictures was the guy in blue getting a beat down. If you look closely the guy in front of him is ready to do a double spinning roundhouse kick to his head.
or maybe he’s just showing off his interpretive dance moves.
Listen up, ’cause I’ve got a climactic speech! You, cameraman, keep the camera rolling. You, director, gimmie my motivation.”
this is the most stupidest comment i’ve ever seen….
what on earth does it have to do with this?? (O_O)
obviously hes making fun of the first picture you idiot. and “most stupidest” wow your intelligent. most stupid yes or stupidest yes but not both together.
Hate to correct the one doing the correcting….”you’re”…lol
Ummm, actually stupidest isnt actually correct you see the superlative form of stupid is most stupid, as in I made the most stupid mistake, not stupidest. Stupidest can be heard and seen everywhere, but it’s wrong. Stupid is just like lucid (same -id ending). The comparative form is more lucid, and the superlative form is most lucid. Likewise, the comparative form of stupid is more stupid, and the superlative form is most stupid. So you see you’re both wrong. Sorry for being so anal if you want to know more then just ask.
Well, you can’t be anal it you don’t have an anus.
Look, the first one is the guy throwing something. He looks very patriotic with this red white and blue. It’s a wonder hes stirring up trouble. If you hover over the second one it says falun-gong.
It’s wonder that they are trouble makers. Lets all ask ourselves, why the heck would kinda beat down on a martial arts movement? There is more to Falun-Gong than martial arts. If China wanted to ban martial arts, they would have to dismantle the Shaolin temple and do away with Wingchun.
Falun-gong is a cult like Scientology.
I think you’re misrepresenting Falun Gong and how the Chinese Communist regime works there Richard.
Those Falun Gong people do exercises like Tai Chi and the movement was very popular in China in the early 90s with support from the regime. Then the regime turned against it just as they turned against Christianity, Buddhism etc.
The regime started fabricating false information about Falun Gong to justify persecuting the movement. Thousands of innocent Falun Gong people have been killed by China’s communist regime. This is well documented by the UN, Amnesty, etc. It’s nothing to do with being anti-China - Falun Gong was practised by 10% of the Chinese population at its peak and the regime started unjustly persecuting 10% of its own people plus their friends and family - now that’s Anti-China! It’s time China got rid of the communist regime and became the great nation it is destined to be without those hoodlums running the country.
I’d like to know where you get the facts that support your statement
“Falun Gong was practised by 10% of the Chinese population at its peak”.
right…..like the Chinese government has nothing better to do than to pick fights with a bunch of tai-chi enthusiasts….get real
Did you say Chi-Tea? I love that stuff!
FaLun Gong People is really not good, they site on the road, on the square and on everywhere you can think. That you can not travel, can not work, sometimes can not go to Hospital! If you come to them and say move, then you may be biten by them~so offensive.
Some of Falun Gong people are good, but some of them is very bad.
Our Goverment to against them is a right action.
Oh no…SITTING! peacefully protesting? The horror. You just don’t do such a thing in Communist China.
P.S. It’s very obvious your from china. While your English is good it is still Engrish to me.
And what does one’s english have to do with their ability to debate and argue? Whenever I have seen white people have their asses handed to them in debates with foreigners, it is quite hilarious, but I suppose an western elitist who lacks the ability to comprehend the inner workings of another language would already know that. ;D
me so horny!!!
though i cant see these pictures clearly..but still i want to say…here in china, everything goes normal, ….government take alll measures to ensure the security of the O/G, and people here are eager to cooperate and see the success of the O/G..
thanks all the friends around the globe, for your supports ….
I call for .40S&W
If Falun Gong is compared to Buddhism, as you, Captain Cab, in your last statement referenced; then don’t you think Falun Gong is more than they actually say they are? Which solidifies my point that Falun Gong is not just some martial arts/Tai Chi movement.
If a group only practices Tai Chi, why in the world would China cramp down on them? Why does China allow Tai Chi but not Falun Gong? The logic is not that hard to follow. There is something to Falun Gong that causes China to react differently.
In case anyone has forgotten, China is a socialist state, aka “Father knows best” state, it likes to control social issues. The official stance on religion is atheist. Did we forget? It is illegal to publicly practice religion but in private you are free to practice whatever you’d like. If Falun Gong is more than what it claims to be, and is classified as a religion, then they cannot practice openly without government consent (Tibetan Buddhism is allowed because of Government consent.) If Falun Gong is a cult, it is illegal to congregate as a cult in China.
If we try to compare our American system with China’s socialist system; are comparison will always be like comparing between apples and oranges. Both are fruits; but they are fruits of different types. You will never make an orange and apple or an apple an orange.
According to Chinese law; the condemnation is not a human rights issue but rather a legal issue. If I asked you without “but”s or “and”s, is Falun Gong breaking Chinese law? The answer is obvious. Just because one has a different system of belief, it does not mean we are impervious to the legal system in which we are in. In other words, just because I don’t agree with a law, doesn’t mean I have a right to break it.
In all honesty, I have not sensitive to the Falun Gong issue, and even more, I am insensitive to any religious movement. If anyone wants to practice religion, pratice in a country where the main religious stance is not labeled “atheist”. I don’t know if people are breaking laws because they can’t read; or just wish not to admit the legal truth.
China is a better country without religion and will continue to grow stronger if it stays that way. and it should stay that way. Religion has no place in government and serves only to hinder social progress.
Lastly, Capitain Cab, if you truly believe that the CCP hinders the growth of China, I highly suggest you recheck your numbers. While they are not the apex of political freedom; they do encourage economic growth and improving social standards. A free political system does not always work as you can clearly see in Zimbabwe and Mongolia. No system is free from its quarks, corruption is everywhere. The CCP has much it needs to improve, let it improve its own way. Why do we force our ideals on a system that just wants to do things its own way? We’re turning politics into almost a religion. “Convert! Convert!” That’s what we scream. “Our way is better!”. How do we know for sure?
New to this site but I don’t have to read the essay above to see the bigger picture surrounding China.”DON’T EXPRESS ANY POLITICAL OPINION TO FOREIGN REPORTERS”???????That one statement says it all. Those who follow the news even lightly know the CPC controls every media in their own country and now they are trying to shut their OWN people up.
Here’s my view on Falun Gong. The CPC are afraid of anything or any individual who commands a large number of disciples, faithfuls, devotees etc.Sure people practice Tai Chi but not in an organized, disciplined and especially large numbers out in the public like Falun Gong did in it’s peak.I guess they saw the head of Falun Gong as they saw the Dalai Lama who also has a whole country of followers. The CPC has the Chinese people completely in their fists and have absolute domination and control over it’s people. They are GODS, they don’t want anyone else to come along who will command the attention of it’s people and possibly “distort” their views.Just remember how they crushed the Tiananmen uprising.A group of people who although had different opinions, nevertheless were one of their own.Do you know there are still people serving sentences in jail who were associated with the Tiananmen uprising? The saddest part for me is that the CPC are manipulating their own people, have them on a leash and the majority don’t know about it and those who do know can’t do anything about it.
“The saddest part for me is that the CPC are manipulating their own people, have them on a leash and the majority don’t know about it and those who do know can’t do anything about it.”
What’s sadder is your mass generalization of 1.3 billion people. I don’t know if you think the Chinese people are stupid or it’s something else, but the relationship between the government and the poeple is a complicated one.
If you think the MAJORITY of people don’t know if they are subject to propoganda then I suggest you visit online chinese forums where bashing the government is a favourite past-time. If not online talk to plenty of lawyers whom are doing something by actively fighting for change. Don’t belittle us as naive or complacent and making assumptions such as we think the CCP are “gods”. Your patronizing and condescending tone merely serves to create more narrow views of hate and fear mongering about China and that’s the last thing we all need.
The relationship between the “government” = CPC is nowhere near complicated. This is a communist government we’re talking about.Either you follow their lead or get left behind,or worse, it’s that simple. There’s no compromise. Also, I don’t think the Chinese are stupid. It’s just that they are a product of the “Big Brother” type government. The CPC controls what they hear, see and feel,so, naturally many of them are blind to the outside world.
How many Chinese have access to BBC,CNN etc??Or how many people visit these online forums? How many Chinese use the web to view news or have access? How many lawyers openly rebel against the government?Better yet look up the dictionary for the word MAJORITY.The handful of online posters and lawyers or whomever who bicker behind closed door about the government constitute what 10 % of the population?20 %tops!!!!!I am not the type of person to make assumptions.I am a foreigner who lived in Lhasa,Chengdu and Xi-An for a total of 5 years and I am speaking of things that I’ve seen. Please tone down your exaggeration about actively fighting stuff. The first sniff the CPC gets of a a rebellion of any sort or form, these so called lawyers of yours will get there licenses nulled or get put behind bars or both.
It’s not a question of whether I think the CPC are gods or not because I didn’t say they were.I do know along with the “MAJORITY” of about a Billion middle class and lower Chinese that the CPC are gods.I’ll ask you this, when they build the Three Gorges Dam and those millions of poor were relocated, did they have a choice?Did the CPC consult them on their views about having to move before the construction?Or had they protested would it have made any difference? The answer of course is no.That’s what amazes me,people are either completely helpless or tell it’s in the greater interest of the nation.I am not saying it’s right or wrong on any of the topics I’ve touched on but I am completely bewildered by how totally controlled the CPC has it’s people and in awe of the CPC’s ability to control a population of 1.3 billion so dominant.Once again I am not against the CPC or for it.I am just expressing my views, you don’t have to feel scared or hatred towards China because obviously being a Chinese you wouldn’t want that.I see Chines posters all over the internet, at least you seem to have some understanding about the world outside China and are not a complete fanatic nationalist.
I will keep it short about the U.S.They lost all credibility after they attacked Iraq. Why not North Korea if they want to fight for democracy. Why haven’t they eliminated the Taliban yet?Why are there U.S soldiers still dying in Iraq some 5 years after the war?Their own politics and foreign policies are questionable, they have no rights to impose onto others what they think other should do.They have a President who doesn’t speak their mother tongue covincingly, enough said.
Well said. I couldn’t agree more. What Americans can’t seem to figure out is that the “American way” is not the only way and not necessarily always the “Right way”. Every county has its own set of social/economic circumstances, challenges, and history. China’s socialist “father knows best” ideals are deeply rooted in Chinese traditional society, where the man is head of the household and looks out for the well being of his family. The government is just a superstructure of this sort of idealogy in their culture. Maybe one day China will be ready for a democracy, maybe it will never. What China has in place seems to be working for them, so why change it? And sudden changes to China in this global economy, and the whole world suffers. Look at what happened to the USSR when democracy was forced on them. They were simply not at a stage where they could accept it, and accept it so quickly. When everything changed overnight, the rich and powerful got more so, and the poor got poorer. It’s a wonder why the population wanted to see a return of Communism because at least they were guaranteed wages prior to the political reform. And speaking of democracy, Americans love to talk about it and push it on others, but do not have a real one of their own with the electorial college. Why give Iraq a democracy? I say, it the Iraqis wanted a democracy, they should fight for it, like any nations people when they grow sick of their government and living conditions. Let the people EARN IT.
Well put, but I agree with what we are doing in China’s case, as opposed to Iraq. Slowly push the government and encourage, or just show examples for, the people. My opinion is that the kids now, here in 15-20 years, will make the protests the US had in the 60’s. Right now, they are still developing and the people themselves are concerned with making their place in society. Understandable, like the US in the 50’s. But it is important to establish a few basic rules of ethics and basic human rights and push any country trying to make it on an international scale to adhere to them some degree. Freedom of the press, freedom of religion, etc. (I understand that western media is often skewed, but anyone can publish something if they have the means). Trying to let the citizens understand the difference between them and their govt is essential, because the media always portrays criticism against the govt as personal to every citizen. But, ultimately, its up to them… which is what scares me. The prospect of 1.3 billion extremely nationalist people who see any attack on their govt as the “Foreigners” trying to take away their “Chineseness” scares me. Yet the same ones who are so afraid of the foreigners invading eat McDonalds and KFC. Reinforcing that certain things are just not cool is essential to the world’s future.
The second one is probably staged, since the guy could just lift the cage up.
Ok, the reason falun gong is illegal and tai chi isn’t is simple. Both are in groups, one has religious beliefs attached to it. Religion in groups is dangerous to the PRC and is therefore illegal. While I personally don’t have a religion, nor do I associate myself with any groups that subscribe to any particular system of thought, I do believe in the allowance of such groups. The PRC and its propaganda machine (Xinhua News Agency) spread exaggerated, erroneous, and straight-up false information about Falun-Gong, or any other group that might negatively influence their power. The majority of Chinese citizens believe most of what they hear from Xinhua, and are warned beforehand about the “Western Media Telling Lies” about their wonderful “People”. I Put quotations in parentheses because Xinhua insists that there is absolutely no difference between a country’s government and its people. Westerners usually see this line of demarcation quite easily, but for many Chinese it simply does not exist; you criticize the Communist Government, you hate the Chinese People. Not all, but most. I once had a police officer warn me (in Chinese, of course) that if I hurt the feelings of China, I hurt the feelings of 1.3 billion people (the discussion, as with any conversation the last 6 months, inevitably led to the topic of the Olympics). China is an organism, comprised of 1.3 billion cells, with a few elite as the head. But, if you criticize the head, you clearly must hate the toes. Furthermore, going back to Falun Gong (A group excersize, religious in nature), if enough cells get together to make a pinky, they might just poke out the eye.
