Forget Your Scooter, We Have Nano
If you go driving through any major Asian city you have probably noticed that scooters and bikes actually outnumber the number of cars on the streets.
Due to the prices of cars in Asia, many people are forced to purchase a scooter or a bike in order to go to and from work, shopping, or visiting family.
That was before the Nano…

Tata Motors, India’s largest car manufacturer, has announced the Nano, a small econo-box vehicle that is inexpensive and economical to operate. Sounds like it’s a new version of a 70 year old German idea for a Peoples Car, i.e., the Volkswagen.
Tata Motors plans to sell the vehicle for $2,500 which would make it the least expensive car in the world. Mr. Tata hopes to get the motor scooter commuters out of the weather and into a safer mode of transport.
With the price of gas going up continuously, the idea of an inexpensive car that can deliver at least 50 mpg will definitely appeal to entry level drivers.
Over the years plans for small, fuel efficient, inexpensive vehicles have caught the imagination of many but they haven’t made it off the drawing board. This time may be different.

I suggest you don’t worry about those things and just enjoy yourself.
I hope they sell it here in the US. Small body for easier parking, low gas consumption and affordable price. This will definitely sell in the cities. I don’t know about it selling in the wide open suburban areas though.
For that you will get the Smart Fortwo and Forfour, coming soon!
You’ll be sad to hear that the reason this car is so cheap is that it has no emissions regulation parts so getting this car to pass an emissions test stock would be impossible. It also does not have features like a/c or a radio.
Fuel efficient cars?!! I’d say they would sell the best in rural areas. This would make the commute more doable.
Just a thought though.
Thanks.
A Nissan priced at $2,500 that enters the Indian car market in 2010 could make its way into international markets, confirms Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn in an interview at the Tokyo Show.
Nissan may still be able to offer the car for “around $3,000,” despite the enhancements. It’s all now just wishful thinking but if it can be done successfully, Nissan’ll have a winner on their hands. Watch this space.
i think this car could help the driver increase 20% more chance to survive in car crash than scooter. ^^
i think if you wer in a car crash in this you would get smushed like a little bug! and i think you would have more chances of gettinn in a car crash
a scooter is like really safe (on the side walk)
