China to the US: Take Our Women!
An interesting piece of history was discovered in a document that the State Department’s historical office released. It was a conversation transcript between China’s Chairman Mao Zedong and US Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger.
“You know, China is a very poor country,” Mao said. “We don’t have much. What we have in excess is women. So if you want them we can give a few of those to you, some tens of thousands.”
Mao circled back to the offer a few minutes later. “Do you want our Chinese women?” he asked. “We can give you 10 million.”
Kissinger noted Mao was “improving his offer,” and the chairman is on record then saying, “We have too many women … They give birth to children and our children are too many.”
“It is such a novel proposition,” Kissinger replied. “We will have to study it.”
The conversation occurred in 1973 in Beijing, China and as far as we could find… the promised10 million Chinese women were not given to the US.

This conversation was taken out of context from the whole conversation. Mao was just saying that as a joke. Since the founding of PRC in 1949, Mao was the advocate behind liberating Chinese women from traditional roles. His famous slogan was “women hold up half of the sky.”
So after 20 years of liberation Chinese women were out of control like ginies out of bottle and rampaging China with their male comrade red guards. Also Mao’s wife Jiang Qing also formed her own faction in the govt and party trying to grab power from Mao. Out of frustration with the power struggle with his wife Mao said that as a joke to imply how much headache he was having in regard to women.
Mao also joked with Kissinger that how come he was so much shorter than his wife.

Mao was an idiot. China has an overabundance of males (~30M) due to the ‘one child per family’ policy. Getting rid of 10M females would only make things much worse.

I don’t think you get it. If you are trying to control the population, it is better to have more men than women.
Consider this.
1 man. 100 women. With good planning, the man could theoretically impregnate all the women and nearly double the population in a single year (or more than double it if some women have twins, triplets, etc).
Alternative:
100 men. 1 woman. The population can only grow by 1 (or 2 with twins, etc.).
Conclusion: Having less women limits the possibilities for population growth.

Well, maybe he was using one of the oldest and greatest of all known Chinese war strategies. Patience. Many Chinese Emperors and Overlords, when realizing they could not win a direct offensive, would “export” or allow the capture of strongly national women and breed out their enemies over a couple of generations. With the Chinese women teaching their children and grandchildren to be sympathetic and at times completely devoted to their mother/grandmothers homeland.
Then the Emperor, or his son, would take over that territory easily as a majority of the peoples were now willing to follow him.

the comment stated by Mao was made 10 years prior to the enactment of the one-child policy, so your comment is not correct – Mao wasn’t an idiot, for that reason (maybe others though). it wasn’t enacted until Dung Xiao Ping’s government, if I remember correctly.

I was so laughing at his comment. It’s obviously a joke. Too bad some people just don’t get it.
I agree with the second comment completely. As much as he had done wrong. Which sole leader didn’t need to kill to make sure they stayed in power.
Let’s not call him a dictator. That had a neg connotation all together.
Let’s just say, ALL of the kings (of all nations, English, French, Japanese, ETC) before him had killed way more people, yet history remember them as heroes, no? What’s the difference?
And as much as he was wrong. There was things he did for the nation of china that people can’t deny. (Like the second comment pointed out, Women’s right. Chinese women have more rights than a American Women)

It looks like you know some Chinese history, but your description is not quite accurate. The Chinese Emperor do "export" women to his rivals, but it's not a massive "export". Generally, it's a princess who was married to the leaders of the rival country as a promise of peace or cease fire. The two most famous princess are princess "ZhaoJun" of "Han" Dynasty who was send to the Hun people, and princess "WenCheng" who was send to Tibetan people. You can find these records on the wikipedia.
