Official Reprimanded For Wikipedia Addiction
An official at Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture was reprimanded for making over 260 contributions to the Japanese language Wikipedia about Gundam and toy robots, while he was supposed to be working.
“The agriculture ministry is not in charge of Gundam,” ministry official Tsutomu Shimomura said.
The official, who’s name is not being revealed, was reprimanded along with five other employees who made other Wikipedia entries as well.
Together they made 408 entires instead of accomplishing their work. Apparently there where a large number of other government employees who had made numerous additions to Wikipedia as well but they could not be identified.
The employees where caught during a probe based on some allegations that many government employees where contributing to the Web encyclopedia while at work.
Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture has now issued an order prohibiting government employees from accessing Wikipedia while at the work place.
