There have been stories for years of kids that were making more than their parents playing online games from home and selling the items on Ebay. I used to game and there were a few kids in our group that made over $4,000 a month easy just selling items they got from playing games such as World of Warcraft or Lunia.
Recently in China, a player took the value of online items to a whole new level. World of Legend, an online game by Shanda Interactive Entertainment, launched an event offering a very unique virtual weapon to the player that charged the most money into their accounts between July 21 and August 31.

Near the end of the contest huge amounts of money had already been charged by various players. The pricing went from around $20,500 by August 27 and was followed quickly by another player who charged around $22,000. At the end of the contest, the winner of the item had charged a whopping $37,715.
Total charges for the entire contest among the top 20 contenders exceeded $226,000.
Unfortunately i was unable to get a picture of the actual weapon. If anyone can find it and comment i will add it to the article.

That’s just insane. Wonder if he can turn around and resell it, or if it is bind-able.
