Tokyo Wave Pool Insanity
Asia has a lot of people. About 4 billion asians make up about 60% of the world’s population. So it is common knowledge that asian countries have little to no personal space and must get used to living in a very crowded environment.
We posted some pictures of a beach in China and a pool that was packed even on a weekday, but nothing we reported has held up to what we are going to show you today.
This is pure Tokyo Wave Pool Madness…
Props to Michael Keferl for braving this adventure to get the footage and share it with us. That has to be the craziest wave pool ever.

Considering Japan has one of the lowest birthrates in the world (statistically speaking the country will actually be un-populated by the year 2050.) The government is actively campaigning to get Japanese couples to have more sex, make more children. Incidentally in the country where couples are reported to have the least sex per year than in any other country, the suicide rate in Japan is one of the highest in the world. I wonder if there’s a connection.

Although I am a Hongkonger, I would say that’s a very common scene in Japan, as this is frequently described in some TV shows, tour guides and even manga.
I always wonder why the Japanese would drive miles and pay the entrance fee for something they could do in their bathtub, which is actually much better.

Im curious to know how many bodies they pull out of these wave pools. It would seem that anyone who “went under” would have quite a difficult time resurfacing with so many packed in.
Comment by Kevin
August 18th, 2007 at 10:19 pm
Yeah, twice the population in a country the size of California. Add the fact that Japan still has some 80% of their forests intact and you have no more room for more people. That explains the low birth rate

Actually, it’s simply difficult to build on most Japanese land as it’s so mountainous and prone to earthquakes. The low birth rate is due to people not having sex — long work hours, commute times, aging population, etc.
Why does lack of room explain the low birth rate? It’s not a voluntary situation, realizing limitations of the environment, blah blah; the Japanese are trying to figure out how to increase the birth rate.

I don’t think people ever drown there. Probably as hard as falling over at a rock concert. You just don’t have enough space.
And there are enough people who could help you coming up to the surface.
They all have floating tyres…. Japanese are so very disciplined in following rules.

@Flyner – Last time i checked, it’s really easy to fall over at a rock concert – particularly if there’s a mosh pit going – and the risk of drowning in that pool is about equal to the risk of getting trampled in a mosh pit at a concert if you cant get back up quickly enough or you have no-one to help you.

I pity the Chinese people having to share the beacch with so many people, but imagine the infectious diseases you can catch by swimming there, especially water borne diseases. China is well know for it’s high rate and numerous types of active infectious dieaseses like SARS, Hepatitis, tuberclosis, H5N1, veneral diseases, skin diseases, and other infectious dieseases which affecting almost every human organ. Chinese are known to have bad public spirit and hygiene. People in China urnirante and defacate even in swimming pools and the constant news of floating faeces (shit) in the swimming pools is clear evidence. The Chinese people are endangering the world by allowing this so many people on a beach and also tolerating bad hygiene. it is time the authorities do something about it.

and I’m sure if you felt endangered you can just reach over and grab the guy in front/to the side/even behind you.
I have a feeling that the people in this video are actually having a lot of fun! Sometimes being surrounded by people who just don’t care about anything but having a good time is therapeutic (why do you think thousands of cosplayers have so much fun and don’t feel like freaks when they’re in anime conventions or akihabara, japan?).
and as for the “oh on asian people pee in swimming pools” comments, I’m sure there are lots of “secret urinators” in swimming pools around the world. So just chill out, enjoy this video, and pay attention to the water temperature when you go swimming next.
