Cats Boiled Alive: Popular Chinese Cuisine
Recently some restaurants in Guangdong, China, have been promoting a popular dish called “water boiled live cat”.
The way the restaurants kill the cats is very cruel and inhumane. One of the chefs even says “the more torture the cats receive, the better they taste.”
They use a bat and beat the cats until they pass out; then throw them into hot water and boil them alive, then de-skin and cook them again.
One restaurant in Pan Yu district, even has a cat “shelter” in their back yard.
Customers go out back and pick which cat they want to eat and the chef will beat the chosen cat half to dead and boil it alive. Not just wild cats end up on the dinner table, some high class cats like Persians will end up a meal as well.
The Menu offers the following choices and prices:
- Cat meat￥10 ($1.25)/lb
- Cat’s brain ￥30 ($3.5)/lb
- Cat’s intestine ￥50 ($6.4)/lb
Lets just hope this is not another prelude to a SARS breakout like before.

I live in China and most Chinese are disgusted by this. For some reason these Guongdong people just eat anything! There is a phrase popular in China:
In Guongdong they eat anything with legs, except a table, anything that flies, except a plane and anything that swims, except a submarine.
I CANNOT believe anyone anywhere does this to cats. I dont care if not everyone in China does it, some people do it and it is outright wrong to even think this is ok. It is inhumane to animals and I hope those who do it get beaten themselves, it is disgusting.
What about rabbit meat? Or chicken? Do they deserve to die? I mean rabbit are home pets too you know.

I worked in a chicken slaughterhouse here in Canada and all i can say is this: the main difference between chicken and cats is the way we love them, not the way we kill them.
No anmal killing is ever pleasant. Either you assume the animal you are eating has been KILLED or either you become a vegetarian. It’s a choice you make.

I’m not against people eating meat, but I say that if you want to eat meat - and you want to rationalize that it’s natural (which it is in some cases), you should it the natural way - that being you have to go hunt and process the food yourself. I highly doubt very many people can go out and catch their own food, or can butcher the animal. There’s a certain level of brutality needed to do that, and most humans are incapable of doing it and so they rely on butchers to do it.
Anyways my views are unpopular because the majority of people don’t want to think about how food ends up on their plate. But this is definitely even more disgusting because the ASSHOLES took pleasure in torturing the animals (a symptom which is considered the first sign of psychotic behaviour - enjoyment in torturing animals). Anyone who willingly wishes to hurt any other innocent being is deserving of death or torture.
I don’t see this as being any different than those who eat lobster. When you order lobster tail, it is taken alive, has a utensil jabbed up the tail, and then boiled alive. And this is considered standard practice in Europe and America for fine dining.

I get annoyed with people who say ‘ how could they do that to cats ‘ when I shout HOW COULD THEY DO THAT TO ANY LIVING CREATURE !? It doesn’t matter WHAT ANIMAL it is - the respect for the life of any animal is important and animals must be treated humanely no matter what ‘ industry ‘ is exploiting their being ! We know that it is a minority of people who are responsible for such acts, in any given country where we read about horrific animal cruelty. And I am so thankful for those in China who are standing up and fighting to end this cruelty ! It is difficult, because we know that the cruelty does not only apply to animals - that there is much going on behind closed doors ( well not so closed any more because the news is getting out finally ) about other crimes that are happening there against China’s people too !
Please tell us - what is it that WE can do to help end the cruelty, to help end the suffering of China’s animals and people ? Boycott products, Boycott the Olympics ? Tell us - and we will spread the word …. I for one am at a loss as to what is the most effective campaign to put into action !

LoL Octopi ARE very intelligent. I know of one that is in an exhibit that likes to play catch. It can also open a jar to retrieve a snack, and then screws the lid back on before handing it back to you.

it’s just a culture difference — they don’t see it as a perversion at all! “torture” could be a translation problem — it may have been “beating” instead. so it’s like to them it’s making the meat tender while the cat’s still alive, not to inflict harm — it just dont link up as worthy of consideration. the asians have been known for their differences in culture and philosophy, the asians, not to say they dont respect humanitarian ideals, but instead feel that there is a divine difference between humans and animals that allows the human to do that — this coming from an asian

I think you are missing the point. There are three schools of thought as I see it. 1) Killing animals for food is wrong. 2) Killing animals for food in the most humane way possible is acceptable 3) Killing animals for food in whatever way possible is acceptable, including torture.
I eat meat, so I subscribe to (2). It would be hypocritical of me to condemn anyone for eating cat, but I have a duty to condemn anyone brutally torturing an animal before they eat it. It is wrong under ANY circumstance, and should be punishable by law.

One does not have to be vegetarian to be compassionate or to care about how food animals are raised - transportated and slaughtered !
But let’s keep going the way we are going with the factory farming and the diseases that result from it - people will start becoming that way like it or not because of health threats - we are a long way gone from the free ranged small farm industry where animals at least had some quality of life, and were put down locally …….. nature is fighting back with all the virus’s that have been going around more these past years !

fyi, they traded children with their friends/neighbours and most of the kids were 2-3 years. Not foetuses. And they did it because their INSANE government fucked up the food supply and forbid them from leaving their assigned village to forage/hunt/try to grow stuff elsewhere. They were starving.

They believe that the adrenaline created when they cook a live animal makes the meat better..sadly,many pets are eaten in China..What’s far worse is the way that they are treated and executed.Many dogs and cats are raised to be eaten. Fur farms in China are the worst! I’ve seen far too many videos of animal attrocities there..animals skinned alive for their fur!!!! Many clothing furs are dog furs now and even some “fake fur” is actually dog fur. Many animals caged together in a cage large enough for one or two animals.I’ve seen so many heart rending images.
Rarely are dogs vaccinated for rabies in China. When an outbreak of rabies occurs, which it often does, they kill ALL the dogs. If you are walking with your pet..they’ll take it and club it to death, right before your eyes.

Again, Japan wins in terms of culture, humanity and intelligence–the kobe beef cow is raised on expensive food and sake (yes, it is given very high quality sake to drink–it makes them happy), and given massages and allowed to roam at pasture as they will.
And as a direct result, is the most delicious beef anywhere, by far.
Japan has it’s horrors - trust me - where you can go and sit at a table, have a live monkey brought to you in a restraining devise - the top of the monkey’s head is slided off - hot oil poured over it’s brains and you eat while the animal is still very much alive - !

I have read an article of this inhumane treatment of monkeys in China, but believe me, I am from Japan and lived there long enough to know that such evil practice DOES NOT EXIST. Believe me, monkeys are sacred in Japan, nobody comes to an idea of eating them, and I didn’t know anybody who did or wanted to try whale meat, I didn’t know anybody who was for whaling. People there care much for stray animals as I have done. Sure there are evil people in Japan, lots of them, but nowadays evilness is everywhere, I live in Germany and people are not less evill than in Japan, every day I hear of people who torture animals to death, just for fun, even their age is quite scary, many of them are juveniles.

I searched last night and have found articles on it - and then I telephoned my in Toronto yesterday who’s son is married to a girl there and they said that they had spoken about it being in their paper there - not being done there - it was in a JAPANESE NEWSPAPER but not done there in Japan - it has been done in China - and other Asian countries but it is not a common thing apparently re eating the brains of a live monkey - but they do eat ‘ brains ‘ ( sounds like back home in Greece with the goat and sheep heads - eating brains and eye’s ! )

Lobsters are a crustaecean a much lower life form than a mamall such as a cat. A lobsters brain and nervous system are almost non excistant and they are ” gone” almost the second they hit the water.

You are blind by that and completely wrong. They have actually been shown to be rather smart as pigs and they are not “gone” almost the second they hit the water, it takes mins! Leaving aside the issue of inflicting pain by clubbing, what’s the difference between eating a cat and eating a pig? It’s simply cultural differences. Although I would not eat a cat or a dog, I don’t see what the difference is between eating them and another mammal (excluding humans of course). In principle, there is nothing wrong with consuming other organisms such as insects which are very nutritious. You people need to step back a little and look past your particular cultural conditioning.
I think a big part of the issue is the belief that adrenaline release makes the meat tastier, such that torturing the animal is promoted. In the US we *attempt* to minimize the suffering of our food animals.
There are certainly exceptions here (de-beaked chicken, for example), but the general cultural trend is to push for a quicker, less painful death.

The outbreak of foot and mouth here in the UK 6 years ago was caused from just that - even though it isn’t supposed to be done ‘ legally ‘ any more - who is there to watch what goes on - ! Any way to cut cost, in the farming industry is done - there is no sure way to police it ! I am sure the mentality of farming is NOT much different - anywhere !

Yes I am sure if everyone looked carefully they would have to empyt their houses completely if they were going to boycott Chinese products - and get rid of everything they have which comes from China - but one has to start somewhere - and just be more careful about what you buy - where it comes from etc. It is difficult but people are waking up and not wanting to support any kind of cruelty - just look at the recalls of pet and human foods - and now even children’s toys that have come from China - oh yes and flip flops too - one poor girl nearly had to have her feet amputated because of something that was ‘ in the plastic ‘ of her flip flops caused such a horrid reaction and infection in both of her feet - yes they were Walmart made in China $3.00 flip flops - TOXIC !

I understand all of the cultural differences, but cattle are different from housepets on many accounts…Pigs are fairly intelligent, but even the most domesticated pig goes feral after a week in the wild and changes appearance, everything.
A housecat is different.
Yeah, feral cats just don’t exist. Right… dogs too. Leave them on their own for a month in the wild and fluffy will come right back into your lap and not maul your eyes out.
