Woman Keeps Dead Mother Under Futon for 8 Months
A 43-year-old woman has been arrested for abandoning the body of her mother in their apartment for several months after her death, police said. Akiko Kumagai, from Sendai, has admitted that the body belongs to her mother. ”
Sometime around mid-October last year, I found my mother dead under a futon,” police quoted Kumagai as saying. “I didn’t know what to do.”
A resident of an apartment complex where Kumagai lives alerted police through a company that runs the apartment on Monday, saying that a strange odor was coming from one of the apartments.
Officers visited Kumagai’s apartment to find a body on a futon. They suspect that Kumagai left the body in the apartment for nearly eight months.
