That would be kidnapping, illegal, and since it appears the husband has all the $ in this relationship, very difficult to deal with, which are all reasons why she might have left the kid. Though yeah, in my opinion, it would still be the better option than leaving the kid with an abusive parent (unless you could arrange for various other caretakers for the kid, such as in-laws, who the husband may not be able to be abusive towards, and who so can protect the kid, in your theory.)

While I agree that children need parents, they also need good parents. If you produce a child, it is your responsibility to pay for it ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$), either in cash, or else in care (and cash). In some cases, the biological parents are not good parents (think about all of the teenaged parents for a stereotypical example), and so it's better for the kid to be taken care of by someone who's actually going to bother. While I think the woman has dealt with it badly (since this appears to be a separation/divorce thing), it's not entirely a stupid idea for her to leave the child with the father, who, if she is citing inability to care for the child, may have made the better choice Furthermore, if she had taken the child away from the father in separation, it technically would have been kidnapping, illegal, and possibly detrimental to the child, since she appears unable to care for it.

If he was "extremely verbally or emotionally abusive, maybe even physically", then its even more reason to take him now isnt it?

They didn't specify what "quarrel" meant. Don't assume it was mild in nature. He could have been extremely verbally or emotionally abusive, maybe even physically. It's hard for any mother to abandon her children. I'm sure she must have a good reason.
