Although Zhang Yi, a senior at a university in Nanjing, Jiangsu, has owned about 500 mobile phones in nine years, he said he has not yet found his favorite.

Zhang got his first mobile phone in 1998, when he was 15, at a cost to his father of more than 8,000 yuan ($1,033). Since then, Zhang developed a crazy passion for the phones and could not help buying whenever a new style debuted in the market.

After he lost interest in one, he would give it to friends or sell it at the second-hand market at a low price. The average time for him to own a mobile phone is less than six months, and the shortest time was only half a day.
