Intruder apprehended by pajama wearing victim
A female prison guard who found an intruder in her apartment in the predawn hours of Tuesday chased the intruder outside while still dressed in her pajamas and apprehended him as he tried to flee by bicycle, police said.
The 25-year-old woman, a guard at Nagoya Prison, found the man trying to remove the chain on the door inside her apartment in Nagoya’s Kita-ku at about 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
When she called out, the man ran away, got on his bicycle and pedaled off. However, the woman, who was in bare feet and her pajamas, chased him and apprehended him on a road about 70 meters away.
“I was frantically trying to catch the man, so I didn’t feel scared,” the female prison guard, who lives alone, was quoted as saying.
The 21-year-old man, a worker at a pachinko parlor in Kita-ku, was taken into custody by police who arrived at the scene after receiving an emergency call. Police said he has admitted responsibility for about a dozen break-ins in the ward. They are continuing to investigate his actions.
