28 Million Cash returned by recycling company

A total of 28 million yen cash found among old newspapers that a recycling company here had collected has turned out to belong to an 80-year-old local woman, police said.

Police concluded that the money belongs to the woman living in Takasaki because the date on the wrappers around the notes matched the date when she withdrew the same amount of money from her bank account.

“I’m glad I got back my precious money. I’m sorry for causing trouble,” she was quoted as telling police officers.

A total of 28 bundles of 1 million yen in cash were found among old newspapers collected at the recycling company in Takasaki on Jan. 29, local police said.

She told police that she forgot that she had kept the bundles of banknotes between old newspapers, and handed them over with the old newspapers to the company earlier in the day.
