Chinese woman breaks 60 year silence

After 60 years of silence, Jiang Guixiang, 76, surprised both local residents and medical experts when she suddenly started speaking this week in Guiyang County, Hunan Province.

Jiang had been mute ever since she was struck by month-long fever when she was 15, the Xiaoxiang Morning Post reported.

Jiang’s relatives and friends have made a beeline to her home since her miraculous recovery.

Doctors said Jiang had probably always been physically capable of speaking, though her damaged hearing might have made it difficult. She may have started speaking again after a certain nerve was excited back into action.
