A Japanese man, too tired to walk home, decided to steal a patrol car he saw outside a post office in Gunma, north of Tokyo, that had been left running.

The officers where inside the post office investigating a report of a stolen card that had been used at the location.

“I came out shopping by train, but I got tired walking, so I thought I would drive the police car home.”

He was apprehended about 15 minutes later in the driveway of a private home, about 4 kms (2.5 miles) from the post office.

I can’t believe they actually came there to investigate a stolen card. Good luck getting the police to do that here in the states.

Yeah, American police don’t spend their time investigating small things like stolen cards or checking foreigners’ bikes to see if they stole them. If they had the same sort of “understanding” with serious criminals that the Japanese police do (especially the yakuza), they could help with all these little things rather than deal with murderers and pimps. (big eye roll)

The Japanese police investigate the little stuff because they ignore as much of the big stuff as they can. Kabuki-cho is full of yakuza-ran offices and any legitimate business that sets up shop near them has to pay protection money monthly. I knw this for a fact as I have a friend who works for an office that has to fork over the cash every month.

The Japanese police don’t care about crime as long as the dog stays off certain lawns. They’re also utterly hopeless at investigation and forensic analysis. That’s why they rely on circumstantial evidence and beating confessions out of people.

There’s no such place as “Hunma”…that’s not even a Japanese word. Did you mean “Gunma”?

You may be right but don’t be so bloody arrogant about it. I know ‘Perth’ isn’t an English or aboriginal word but it’s a city in Oz. There is every possibility that ‘Hunma’ exists but that there are a lot of towns in Japan and unless you’ve memorised every one, you may not have heard of that one.

    Good day to you sir.
