Man searches to repay $.64 after 54 years
Liu Zhixian, a retired official living in Renqiu, Hebei, finally paid back 5 yuan (64 cents) he borrowed 54 years ago.
One day in 1953, Liu, who then worked in Tianshui, Gansu, borrowed 5 yuan from a colleague, surnamed Wan, for transportation to Baotou, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, to see his brother. Liu went back some days later to repay the money but did not see Wan though he went to Wan’s office several times.
One month later, Liu was transferred to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and never met Wan again.
After a long search, Liu, 73, recently found Wan Zhaocai, the son of the man from whom he had borrowed the money (the father had died in 1965), and gave him 500 yuan ($64). “At last,” Liu said, “this takes a load off my mind.”
