Japan’s Yone Minagawa Oldest Person

TOKYO — Japan’s oldest person, Yone Minagawa, 114, has become the world’s oldest living person after Emma Faust Tillman reportedly died Sunday night at a nursing home in Connecticut at 114, according to a U.S. geriatric study group.

Minagawa, who is in good health and lives in the Keijuen special nursing home in Fukuoka Prefecture, celebrated her 114th birthday on Jan 4 with two of her grandchildren and the staff members of the nursing home. She loves sweets but often gives them away whenever others are around her. On the days she feels well, she participates in club activities in a wheelchair and moves her body along to music, staff said.
