2006 brought about the creation of Weird Asia News and although we are not that old, we feel we have been around long enough to present to you our top 10 picks for the weirdest site of 2006.

10. Russian Roulette for Kids

“Kaba Kick is russian roulette for kids. The player points the gun at his or her own head and pulls the trigger. Instead of bullets, a pair of feet kick out from the barrel (which is shaped like a pink hippo). If the gun doesn’t fire, the player earns points.”

9. Japanese game show worse than Fear Factor

I don’t know about you but i sure don’t want anything to do with this game show.

8. Japanese Banquet of Cannibalism

Japan as a country never stops amazing us. I am sure you have heard of, or seen the “Nyotaimori” (literally means female body plate), where the restaurant serves sushi and sashimi on a naked woman’s body.

If that is not weird enough , Japan has just invented another way of eating, where a “body” is made from food and placed on an operating table, much as though in a hospital.

You can operate anyway and anywhere you want by cutting open the body and eating what you find inside. The body will actually bleed as you cut it and the intestines and organs inside are completely editable. It’s a banquet of Cannibalism.

7. Chinese Mermaid Girl discovered

Maomao the 10-day-old baby who was born with her legs joined together undergoes a medical check-up by a doctor at the Changsha Children’s hospital on November 21, 2006.

The newborn, dubbed mermaid girl, had a rare congenital defect known as ‘mermaid syndrome.’

6. Miracle Baby flushed down toilet and survives
In Jiang Su China, a 19 year-old pregnant woman went to a bathroom unaware of the ordeal to come. While in the bathroom her pre-matured baby girl was unknowingly birthed slipping out of her body into a tunnel designed toilet. The infant was then accidentally flushed into the waste pipe.

The local police and firemen started a rescue team to try and save the baby. Hours later they had to break open the waste pipe and get the baby out. She was barely breathing after been rescued. It’s certainly a miracle that she was still alive after seven hours stuck in the waste pipe.

5. Chinese man washes hair for first time in 26 years

80 year-old Mr. Luo lives in the little village of Chong Qing city in China. Wildly enough, he hasn’t washed or cut his hair or beard for more than 26 years. His hair grew to 2 meters long and his beard was 1.5 meters.

For the first time in 26 years, he decided to give himself a new look for a local animal sports event. All the townspeople lined up to give him a hand. After many failed attempts using regular shampoo, they spent a total of 5 hours and 3 packs of laundry detergent to wash him clean.

In the end, Mr. Luo was a very happy man.

4. Chinese Martial Arts Master Fly Killer

Master Wong, from China, is probably not a master of martial arts but definitely a champion at killing flies. For ten years, he has used his fly swatters to kill about 550,000 flies in the little alley where he lives.

His trophies are bottles of preserved flies from years of his work. Amazingly he can tell a flies’ sex with a single glance as they flying by. Is he a master or what?

3. Wrong parking spot kills elderly lady

Responsible auto use doesn’t just apply when you’re driving, as one man learned when punished for the death of a woman who bumped into his parked car.

Li, from Yuhuan County in Zhejiang Province, parked his car randomly on a slope and left on July 24. When he returned, minutes later, he was shocked to find an elderly woman lying beside it with a serious head injury. She died in hospital some days later.

A court investigation determined that the woman, surnamed Weng, had been walking down the slope at a high speed and bumped into the car, losing her balance and striking her head on the ground.

As Li’s car had been parked illegally, the court held him partially responsible for Weng’s death and demanded he pay about 200,000 yuan (US$25,296) to her family.

2. Asian mother breast feeds Monkey Son

Namita Das has two grown up children, but she continues to suckle her pet monkey.

Mrs Das describes Buru as her “son”

Namita, a middle-aged woman who lives in India’s north-eastern Tripura state and is a government worker, describes Buru, the pet monkey, as her third child. “Yes, I breastfeed him. He is my son,” says Namita, caressing the monkey.

More than four years ago, her woodcutter husband found a dying baby monkey under a tree after a fierce storm. He brought the animal home in Chandrapur village on the outskirts of the Udaipur town in Tripura’s South District. ”

The monkey fell ill after the storm , in which it lost its parents. I decided to bring him up with my daughters,” says Namita.

Her daughters, Dipti and Tripiti, treat the monkey as a sibling. “We tie rakhi (a sacred thread) on Buru’s wrists during the Indian festival when sisters wish their brothers well,” says Dipti, the elder of the two.

“I did not have a son. God finally gave one,” says Namita.
