Chinese Fish Get Tattoos
In Wu Han China, people have been purchasing tattoo’d fish. Customers can chose from many different Chinese characters such as “Wealth, Dragon, Longevity, Happiness”Â
These tropical fish have been very popular as people buy them for Fengshui and they are supposed to bring you good luck.

Those are awesome! I worked at a petstore where we sold those, but they weren’t charaters, they just had a patch of scales colored, and they were gouramis, not cichlids like those.
It’s just a pity the tats tend to fade…unless they’re doing something different with these.

My husband just gave me a tatoo’d parrott fish for Mother’s Day. The fish has a rose or flower tattood on both sides and its lips are tatoo’d red! I call her/him Rosie!

Amazing fish! Though I have to wonder how long they live. I’ve heard such dying and tattooing can be traumatizing physically for the fish.

Nice? If you know the process of tattooing the fish you may think twice. This is animal abuse in plain sight and people call them cute? This is akin to skinning an animal and spraying it with paint then putting on display for people to purchase. Wanna peel your skin off and get paint sprayed on you?

Are you serious? They can’t actually be tattooed, not when one knows the fundamentals of tattooing. I doubt these fish have been hurt. They could never survive the needles let a lone the vibration of any tattoo machine, it’s electric . . .

Hmm… probably paint of some sort,as tattos,as Suzanne explained,would definitly kill the fish. I should say maybe waterproof ink? ( is there such thing? )

there is somthing called… MS222, clove oil. bensocaine…. all used as fish anostetics… those fish dont feel nothing!!! they look quite happy to me…i actualy want some my self!… im sure they dont go through half the pain of the chick, cow, pig and fish you eat on your plate … arite den lil dog!! respec for common sence!!

the “tattoo” goes away after like six months. it’s not even done with a needle.
the dye is a lot like henna “tattoos” but since it is under the scales, it can’t get rubbed off like henna does on our skin..
so all you uptight p.e.t.a assholes can shut up about it, and i have seen the parrotfish like “rosie” and they go on to live a normal life after the ink goes away.
they also do it to freshwater mollies when they are still young
(mollies have live babies, and they are quite small) how could a fish that small survive a real tattoo?
they are adorable. i have seen quite a few in my days at the pet store and i was in contact with the fish farms who did the “tattooing”
besides, i have seen people do ungodly things to their cats and dogs (removal of voiceboxes, declawing) to make life more convenient for the owner, i think THAT would be something to complain abut..
so go into a cat forum or blog and get on your damn soapbox

I just bought some of these fish..their tats looked crooked so I took them to my local tattoo shop and got some work done to fix it…I got a quarter sleeve done on their fins like gang members!! Ha ha ha stupid PETA people!! They care more about a fish than a fucking human being!!!! I’m buying more just to spite them!!! Go fish!
